We đź’™ our nurses!

Meet Jessica Murad, lead Care Van nurse for the Houston area.

Q: Why did you decide to become a nurse, and what do you like most about your work with the Caring Foundation of Texas?

A: When I was 17 my grandmother was put into Hospice care, I saw the way the nurses took care of not only my grandmother but my whole family. They showed us so much care and compassion during such a hard time, they sat with us and just let us talk or cry or offered reassurance that she was not in any pain. This made me want to become a nurse, I wanted to be able to offer that compassion to others.

Q: Why is it important to celebrate Women’s History Month, and who are some of the women you admire most?

A: I believe it is so important to celebrate Women’s History Month because we should look back and recognize the achievements and struggles Women have made throughout history. I think if we know the struggles people before us had we can better appreciate the blessings we have in our lives. Some important women I admire are: Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell who was the first woman to ever become a doctor in the United States and even though she had to face constant discrimination, she paved the way for many other women after her. Eddie Bernice Johnson who is the first Registered Nurse to be elected to congress, the first ever African American woman to be elected to public office in Dallas, and also the first African American and the first woman to serve as a ranking member of the Science, Space and Technology Committee. These are just two women that I find very inspirational and if you have time you should read more about them!

Q: What do you hope to accomplish this year with the Caring Foundation of Texas?

A: This year with the Caring Foundation of Texas I hope to be able to do more outreach in the Houston area. I would like to help increase vaccination rates throughout Houston and the surrounding areas. I would like children to be able to stay in school, and parents to not have to choose between paying for electricity or another bill and paying for vaccines.
