The Caring Foundation of Texas was honored with the 2023 Burl Osborne Awareness Award at the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Bonne Santé event this past June. This wonderful evening provided a culinary experience featuring local celebrity chefs, a silent auction, and live entertainment for leaders in the Texas kidney community to help raise awareness and funds for individuals affected by kidney disease.
Our Foundation members and Board Chairman, Jim Springfield, attended this memorable night. The award recognized the ongoing collaboration between the Foundation’s Care Van mobile program and NKF in providing the Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) to educate Texas communities on kidney health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 35 million US adults are estimated to have chronic kidney disease and 1 in 7 adults are not aware. KEEP Healthy is a free program that provides quick assessments to identify early signs of kidney disease. Screenings include body mass index, blood pressure checks, and albumin creatinine ratio (ACR) urine tests for at-risk individuals.
In addition to screenings, KEEP Healthy provides clinical consultation, educational resources, and referrals to individuals over 18 years of age. This year, the team has provided KEEP Healthy services to over 2000 individuals in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Azle, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Houston, San Angelo, San Antonio, and Waco. The Caring Foundation of Texas is grateful for this prestigious honor and the continued partnership with the National Kidney Foundation.
