August is Summer Sun Safety Month, and as Texas continues to heat up, The Caring Foundation of Texas would like to share a few tips on how to protect yourself and your loved ones from the sun’s rays. According to the American Cancer Society, too much sun exposure can cause harm, especially to children, if there is no UV ray protection. The following tips can provide protection and prevent heat exhaustion while having fun outdoors:

  1. Remember to use your sunscreen and reapply.
  2. Stay hydrated and always have water nearby.
  3. Hats, protective clothing, and shade are great ways of keeping babies safe from too much sun exposure.

Teaching families the importance of sun exposure can help you and your loved ones stay protected against heat exhaustion. According to the Mayo Clinic, heat exhaustion can occur when doing physical activity during high temperatures and high humidity. Symptoms include heavy sweating and a rapid pulse. Keeping the above tips in mind can help prevent heat exhaustion this summer while enjoying time spent with family and friends!
