Oral Health Partner Spotlight: Waco Family Medicine

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! That makes it the perfect time to highlight our partnership with the Waco Family Medicine school program serving McLennan, Hill, Falls, Bells and Limestone counties.

Proper oral hygiene is essential to overall health and wellness and a critical component to a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school. Tooth decay is the most common childhood disease that can result in pain and other problems that impact a child’s development. Oral disease can also cause a decrease in appetite, depression, and distractibility, which in turn may negatively impact self-esteem and may lead to school failure.

Children participating in the Waco Family Medicine school program receive an oral examination, x-rays and a cleaning. All students also receive an application of fluoride varnish and sealants (if needed) after their dental exam. Services are provided at no cost to the families.

The program utilizes one of our Care Vans to reach schools throughout the community without the burden of maintenance, gas, or insurance costs. Providing these resources to accommodate easier access to essential health care is what the Caring Foundation of Texas does best, and we couldn’t do it without the dedication and coordination of partners like Waco Family Medicine.

“We are proud to be a part of a partnership that improves access to oral health prevention and education for children, especially those at high risk for dental disease,” said Sheena Payne, Executive Director, Caring Foundation of Texas. “Over the past two years, more than 370 dental services have been provided through our collaboration and we look forward to that number growing.”

Everyone deserves access to proper oral health care. If you’d like to partner with us to utilize our resources to bring accessible health care to Texans, learn more here.
